In the context of the ECARLE project, we developed a named entity recognition model to automatically recognize entities in Greek texts of the 19th century, aiming to semantically enrich digital documents with cultural information, such as people and place names, organizations, dates, and titles of works. Semantic indexing of documents multiplies the value of library collections and allows the research community of literature to explore new questions and discover patterns that would not have been otherwise possible to find. Sample outputs of our model can be seen in the following pictures.
